ONLY one East Lancashire area has a lower coronavirus rate than the national average according to latest statistics.

Figures released by Public Health England shows that across the country the rate is 119.5 per 100,000 people for the seven days to February 19.

The stats are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Burnley is a rate 118.1 with 105 cases in those seven days.

Also seeing a decrease in the infection rate was Blackburn with Darwen 165.7 - with 248 new cases, Pendle 144.4 - 133 cases, Hyndburn 129.6 - 105 cases, Ribble Valley 139.6 - 85 cases and Rossendale 125.9 - 90 cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 52 (17%) have seen a rise in case rates, 260 (83%) have seen a fall and three are unchanged.

The list has been calculated based on Public Health England data published on February 23 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

Here is the list in full. From left to right, it reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to February 19; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to February 19; rate of new cases in the seven days to February 12; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to February 12.
