THERE probably won’t be too many readers of Looking Back who can identify this photograph at a glance.
Taken in 1965 it shows construction of the Ramsgreave Covered Reservoir well underway. A huge concrete ‘tank’ was created topped off with a series of arched roofed buildings at the site at Isle of Man, near Wilpshire.
Over time the concrete slabs would be hidden as earth was piled up against them and nature was allowed to take its course leaving just the roof visible.
The reservoir was deemed necessary due to the increasing demand from a growing population in East Lancashire and continues to be in use today operated by United Utilities.
