A NEW medical centre is set to open in Hyndburn.

The Oswald Medical Centre on Blackburn Road in Accrington is now in the final stages of renovation.

The change will see the surgery's nearby Myrtle House branch close.

The practice's other sites in Union Road, Oswaldtwistle, and Pritchard Street, Blackburn are unaffected.

The new centre will include 11 fully equipped clinical rooms (five on the ground floor for easy access and two with fully electric examination beds for disabled patients) and six on the first floor; a lift to the first floor; a self-check in arrivals unit; an LCD patient information screen; parking on site (including disabled parking); full disabled access and disabled toilet facilities; two reception desks and spacious patient waiting areas to help keep patients spread out and prevent the transmission of infection; and provide new services including primary care network pharmacists and a first contact physiotherapist.

Partner Dr Rakesh Sharma said: “The pandemic has meant we cannot have the grand opening we had planned on having from the start, over two years ago but this does not mean we cannot celebrate a significant achievement for the practice and our patients.

"The new site is modern, spacious and well equipped and we are confident that patients will value and appreciate the new space we have created”.

The opening date, expected nest month, will be confirmed shortly following formal sign offby the Care Quality Commission.

The practice serves more 15,000 patients.
