A POPULAR bakery is in the process of opening a bigger and better shop to replace its original store.

Mannings Bakery, which began its life in Waterfoot, will be moving to a new premises as the business continues to develop.

The Waterfoot store is set to close in about a months time, when a new store will be opening closer to the town centre in an old accountants further up Burnley Road.

The Waterfoot store was the first of the bakeries to be opened by the family and three generations have now been running the business.

Director of Mannings Bakery, Jason Manning said: "It's a bigger better shop really - that is what we have done with all of them. As time has gone on our demand has gone up.

"Especially with the way it has worked out now that you have got to have the space between people. There is also more room at the back for the staff to work in.

"It just ticks all the boxes really."

Some of the other stores, including the shop in Bacup have been relocated as the business is looking for larger premises for all of their shops.

Michael Manning began the business in 1947, with it become a franchise which is now run by son David Manning and grandson Jason Manning.

The Rossendale based bakery, which has eleven stores across East Lancashire, has been serving the community since 1947.
