Every borough in Lancashire now has a coronavirus infection rate below 200 cases per 100,000 people, except for two.

Only Blackburn with Darwen and Preston have rates higher than 200 cases per 100,000 people, with 225.5 and 238.2 respectively.

As of February 12, the national average rate of infection had dropped to 136.5 cases per 100,000 people, with only two boroughs in East Lancashire and two boroughs in the rest of the county with rates lower than this.

Burnley and Rossendale currently have a rolling seven-day infection rate of 132.7 per 100,000 people and 125.9 per 100,000 people respectively.

Imperial College London’s React study, which tested more than 85,000 people in England between February 4 and 13, suggested infections have dropped to just one in 200 people.

The study also suggested infections are halving every 15 days, and the R number – which expresses how many people the average infected individual spreads the virus to – is at 0.72.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 16 (5%) have seen a rise in case rates, 298 (95%) have seen a fall and one is unchanged.

Corby in Northamptonshire has the highest rate in England, with 228 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 13 – the equivalent of 315.7 cases per 100,000 people.

This is down from 437.6 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 6.

Middlesbrough has the second highest rate, down from 371.0 to 307.8, with 434 new cases.

St Helens in Merseyside is in third place, down from 352.2 to 283.5, with 512 new cases.
