Police officers have been checking the speed of motorists after concerns were raised by residents on local routes.

A team from Burnley and Padiham Police said they were responding to requests from residents on problem roads in the areas during the lockdown.

Burnley and Padiham Police posted last night, “I have been out with the speed gun, firstly to check if it works in the dark which it does. But It is very difficult due to not being able to see the number plate to get a reading back. Secondly that all the feed back is that we are doing it at the wrong time. Well, we tried after 20 minutes I only caught one car speeding.

“Again, this was only a fact finding session but as the nights get lighter I will be out later.”

Hyndburn Police said they were responding to concerns over road safety.

Hyndburn Neighbourhood Team said: “In response to recent incidents regarding road safety in the Hyndburn area your local neighbourhood policing team using the speed gun have deployed to the West End area of Oswaldtwistle, Accrington.

“It was a bitterly cold early evening with most drivers adhering to the driving conditions and the relevant speed limits, officers are committed to targeting road safety issues and would encourage people to contact Lancashire Police to report any incidents via 101 or the new platform called Lancashire Talking. Stay safe.”
