Police have revealed how they stopped a man who was drinking alcohol whilst driving.

It was one of several incidents officers dealt with last night in Burnley and Padiham.

Police said the man was arrested on Padiham Road after being more than double the drink drive limit while driving his car.

A Police spokesperson said: "He was quite literally drinking whilst driving.

"It's not something we see often, a man openly drinking alcohol while driving his car.

"He was spotted from our own vehicle and stopped due to the manner of his driving, when we saw the alcohol on him."

The man was arrested and charged with drink-driving and will appear in court.

Police had a busy night as they also arrested a man in the Stockbridge Road area on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with the intent to supply. The amount of drugs was said to be ‘substantial’ and early indications suggest the value to be in the region of £2000.

Two youths had cannabis taken from them and a lock knife was also seized by officers. in a separate incident.

A car was seized after it was found to have no insurance and the driver had no licence while driving on Victoria Road.

Police said officers from Burnley’s Neighbourhood Team and the Child Exploitation Team had been ‘concentrating on drugs and vulnerable young people’ and were ‘patrolling hotspot areas and disrupting criminal activity’.
