CALLS have been made for action on 'Hyndburn's most dangerous road' after a crash.

The incident took place on Blackburn Road in Oswaldtwistle at around 9pm last night.

It comes after years of campaigning by local councillors and residents to try to get some measures introduced on the road because of the number of incidents there.

County Councillor Peter Britcliffe, who represents the area, said: "It is really time something was done as we have been highlighting it as the worst road in Hyndburn for accidents for years.

"We need to see some speed cameras or stringent safety measures in place.

"The residents in the area live in fear for themselves and also dealing with a major accident.

"What does it take for action to be taken in this area and you really fear for the worst that someone could die before action is taken.

"It is a huge problem road and needs the police and county hall officials to do something about it.

"We always worry about the people involved in the crash and hope they are alright."

Sara Britcliffe, Hyndburn MP, added it is a 'horrendous road' for accidents.

She said: "We need something to happen here and since I have been MP I have been wanting action.

"I have been down doing police speed checks and I have held zoom meetings online with the residents about their concerns over speeding.
"We are raising those concerns about it being the most dangerous road.

"It is a regular occurrance with accidents on the road and there has been campaigning for 10 years about it.

"We cannot wait for someone to be seriously hurt or even worse before measures are introduced."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 9.02pm to reports of a crash. We’ve attended with two ambulances and took two patients to hospital."

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "We had reports of a minor-injuries crash involving a blue BMW and a black Ford Focus on Blackburn Road in Oswaldtwistle."
