How many burglaries were reported on a street near you last year?

We may have been in lockdown, but this didn’t stop the burglars from coming out to play.

Using data from the Lancashire Constabulary, we have uncovered the East Lancashire streets with the most amount of burglary reports in 2020.

This data is relevant to reports made in Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Rossendale and the Ribble Valley.

According to the data, 3443 burglaries were reported in these areas last year.

The data suggest that Blackburn with Darwen is the area where the most among of burglary reports were made (958)

Burnley wasn’t far behind with a total of 806 burglary reports made.

Hyndburn is next (624) followed by Pendle (521).

According to the data, Ribble Valley received the least amount of burglary reports; 221 were made across the year.

In the remaining 313 reports, no exact location was specified.

In Blackburn with Darwen alone, 958 burglary reports were made.

Across the whole of East Lancashire, one street stood out in terms of burglary reports made- and that was Hampden Avenue in Darwen.

A whopping 57 burglaries were reported on this street which is much higher than the rest of the streets.

Other local streets with a lot of burglary reports includes George Street West in Blackburn where 29 reports were made.

Whalley Road (17) and Burnley Road (15) also made the list for most burglary reports made.

How many crimes went unsolved?

According to the police data, in 31 burglary reports no suspect was identified.

1.8 per cent of cases are awaiting a court outcome and in a further 1.4 per cent of cases the court result was unavailable.

37 per cent are still under investigation and in 183 cases police were unable to prosecute a suspect.
