CONCERN has been raised about children's involvement in the drug trade following raids executed today (February 8).

Officers from East Exploitation Team, Burnley West Neighbourhood Team and Burnley Task Force have carried out two drugs warrants and have undertaken several disruption visits in the Gawthorpe and Hapton areas of Padiham.

A small quantity of drugs have been seized by officers however police remain concerned about information we have they have received about the number of young people involved in carrying and dealing drugs.

Community Beat Manager for Padiham, PC Chris Mckee said: "This is something that we are going to target heavily over the coming weeks and months however we appeal to parents, guardians or young people reading this to contact us with further information which may assist us in the battle against the exploitation of young people.

"Parents or guardians; Have you seen a change in mood for the young person you care for? Are they leaving the house at unusual times more frequently? Do they ask for money more regularly without reason why or have they acquired money without explaining where from? Are they using more than one phone? Have they received unexplained gifts such as jewellery, clothes or tech?

"The list is not exhaustive however these are all signs that a young person may be being exploited.

"Be assured that we are going to come down hard on those responsible but we need your help."
