POLICE used footprints in the snow to try to chase men who were trying to steal from cars.

The incident took place on 4.40am this morning when officers were called to Christleton Close, Briercliffe, Burnley to reports that two males dressed all in black were trying car doors. They were disturbed and went towards Sandiway Drive, Briercliffe.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "Police arrived minutes afterwards and located footprints in the fresh snow starting at Sandiway Drive near to Briercliffe Social club.

"The tracks were followed for a good while all around Briercliffe which showed the offenders had tried numerous car doors and had been up driveways.

"The offenders tracks were followed around Briercliffe, before coming out onto Eastern Avenue, where they crossed over onto Fleetwood Road/Cromer Avenue.

"The offenders tracks then disappeared on Briercliffe Road at the junction with Brennand Street due to the snow melting and the amount of foot traffic.

"I would encourage the residents of Briercliffe and surrounding areas to check any CCTV/Ring doorbell footage or any dash cam footage to see if they have caught the offenders in the area.

"The time the offences occurred at will have been between 3:30am and 5:30am.

"Alternatively, if you have seen or know who these people are then we would like to hear from you.

"I would also like to remind the residents of Burnley to remain vigilant and keep your belongings safe and secure by locking your vehicles.

"If you find that you do have CCTV footage of the offenders then please call 101 quoting log LC-20210208-0126 or email 4305@lancashire.pnn.police.uk."
