INFECTION rates have decreased in all six East Lancashire boroughs, with all infection rates recorded now below 500 cases per 100,000.

Blackburn with Darwen has the highest infection rate in Pennine Lancashire and the eighth worst infection rate in the country at 443.6 per 100,00 after 664 tested positive.

This is however a drop from the week before where an infection rate of 560.5 was recorded after 839 had tested positive.

Burnley has the second highest infection rate in East Lancashire at 356.5 however this is a significant drop from the week before when the infection rate stood at 531.9.

Pendle’s infection rate now stands at 337.6, down from 536.3, while Hyndburn has seen a similar decrease from 570.1 last week to 322.1 in the latest figures.

Rossendale has the lowest infection rate of the six boroughs at 247.6, down from 416.9 last week, and Ribble Valley is the other borough to have an infection rate below 300, with the current rate standing at 275.9, a decrease from 353.1 the week before.

Across the rest of the county, all districts have reported a drop in infection rates.

Of the 315 local areas in England only five, or 2 per cent, have seen a rise in case rates while 310, 98 per cent, have seen a fall.

The figures, for the seven days to January 29, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent four days (January 30-February 2) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.
