A car has flipped onto its roof on a major East Lancashire road after heavy snow fall caused treacherous driving conditions.

On Tuesday at around 6.55am, the car, a black BMW, was travelling along the Grane Road close to Clough Head Cafe, when it lost control on the ice and slush and crashed, flipping on to its roof.

The driver, a man who police say is a key worker, is not thought to be seriously injured.

A spokesperson for the police said: "It looks like we were called at around 6.55am to a vehicle on its roof in the middle of the road, close to Clough Head Cafe.

"We have attended along with the ambulance service and the driver of the BMW is thought to have suffered only minor injuries.

"By 8.10am, the road had cleared a bit but it is not known if the vehicle has been recovered yet."

Earlier, a spokesperson for the police's Tactical Operations Team said: "Just dealing with this RTC on the Grane Road and waiting for recovery.

"Another example of how not to drive in the snow.

"This gentleman is a key worker and luckily not injured."
