A HEADTEACHER has spoken of her amazement and appreciation at the response she has had since a letter she sent to parents 'as a mother' went viral.

Sarah White, headteacher of Coates Lane Primary School in Barnoldswick, penned the heartfelt letter after struggling to balance home-schooling and working, telling parents that they are doing great.

Since the letter went viral, Mrs White has appeared on the news and chat shows and she has been stunned by the response the letter has received.

She said: "It's been incredible! It's just gone crazy in the past few days, I was on the Chris Evans breakfast show this morning, Lorraine yesterday and the news.

"It's just been incredible I was not expecting it at all."

Sarah wrote the letter after a mother called her on Friday who was struggling to balance home-schooling. The head wanted to tell parents that they were doing a great job balancing home-schooling their children with life and they should given themselves a lot of credit.

Lancashire Telegraph:

She was delighted by the initial response from parents who were very thankful and felt relief from the letter, but she never expected the response it drew.

She added: "As the ball got rolling over the weekend and Monday and yesterday, we got another roll of appreciation from our parents just saying 'thank you' and 'wow'.

"I've had so many messages from parents saying 'I'm so glad my child goes to your school' - just massive support, they have been brilliant.

"The Barnoldswick parents are fantastic."

On the social media post with the letter on the school's Facebook page, one parent said: "Thank you thank you so much for that Mrs White. Just what i needed to hear and has made me feel so much better.

"You are an inspiration and you have an amazing team who we are very blessed to have and very grateful for. Our children are so lucky. Thank you."

Another replied: "This is a wonderfully inspirational post. What lucky children to have you as their headteacher, role model and mental health ambassador."

Sarah said that the letter was "vitally important" and that the school has developed an ethos to work closely with parents, creating a support style network.

"I think it's important that families and parents understand that we are human beings as well working in school," Mrs White added.

"It's hard at the minute but we want to care for and educate their children."

Earlier this month, Sarah spoke about the "wonderful community" in the school and how parents and children at the school had embraced home schooling as best as they could.

At the same time the school also putting out a plea for people to bring in spare electronic devices to the school to pass them along to families who did not have access to materials needed to home-school efficiently.
