FIREFIGHTERS have been assisting at Blackburn Cathedral mass vaccination hub.

Lancashire fire crews have been working at the mass vaccination centre for the past few days to help deliver the vaccine to those most at risk from Covid-19.

One firefighter, Dave, even celebrated 30 years service at the vaccination hub.

Speaking on Twitter, Chief Fire Officer for Lancashire, Justin Johnston said: "This is how Firefighter Dave celebrated his 30yrs service.

"As I watched him vaccinating today he said “I can’t retire now as there’s so much important work to do”.

"Dave, I salute you."

Dave, who is stationed at Bamber Bridge and Chorley stations, said: "What other way would I spend what should have been my retirement day than assisting our fantastic NHS vaccinating the public of Lancashire."

Justin was also helping at the vaccination centre on Saturday (January 23), with the fire crews manning four vaccination booths.

He added: "Great team end to end including four booths where firefighters were vaccinating the people of Lancashire alongside the wonderful NHS."

Another firefighter posted about his time at the Blackburn Cathedral mass vaccination centre on Thursday (January 21).

He said: "Today I had the pleasure of spending some time with Anthony Beddows at the mass vaccination site at Blackburn Cathedral. Enlightening & enriching to say the least!

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, NHS and Lancashire Resilience working together brilliantly to support those who need it most."
