TRIBUTES have been paid to a "witty and amazing" father-of-three who died last week.

Gareth Hayhurst, known to many as Gaz, from Oswaldtwistle, died suddenly on January 15, aged 39.

Family friend Gemma Caroll said that her friend was "one in a million" and is heartbroken by his death.

Gemma said: "Our hearts are broken! Gaz would have wanted us to help his family through this awful time.

"Gaz was one in a million as many would agree. He was loving, caring, witty and an outright amazing guy to know and to be around!

"He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

"It's so difficult to understand why! But we know he had many struggles which just became too much for him to handle.

"May you now rest in peace Gaz."

Gareth leaves behind three sons, Joel, Reece and Ashton, and their mother Louise.

Gemma has set up a fundraiser in his name to raise money for his children which has already raised £380 of its £1,000 target.

She added: "Gaz had struggled with his mental health for some time now. Although we thought he had turned a corner, this wasn't to be.

"Gaz leaves behind his devastated family and many friends. If only he knew how many life's this would affect!

"The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise funds to help towards his children's future.

"Whether this is for driving lessons or studying fees, we just want to give them something.

"As irrelevant as this may be, we know it won't ease their pain, however may give them some financial comfort in the future in memory of their Dad."

He leaves behind his loving partner Louise, his children Joel, Reece and Ashton, his dad Lyndon, mum Sharon, brothers Leighton, Mark and Stuart, auntie Elaine, auntie Jackie and auntie Wendy and uncles Derek and David Hayhurst.

A private funeral service will be held for immediate family and close friends only (due to the current restrictions).

The family have asked for no flowers however have said that donations are being gratefully received on the GoFundMe page set up in Gareth's memory.

If you are struggling with your mental health, Gareth's friends and family ask that you reach out to services such as the Samaritans and the Mental Health Crisis Line.
