More people have died with the coronavirus in hospitals across East Lancashire than in any other Trust in the whole county.

A total of 762 people have lost their lives in either Blackburn or Burnley hospitals within 28 days of testing positive for the virus, since the pandemic began in March last year.

New data released on Friday afternoon showed that another 28 people in Lancashire had lost their lives due to complications with the coronavirus, with the number of people to have died with Covid-19 at hospitals within East Lancashire increasing by 12, up from 750 on Thursday. 

A further six people have died with the virus at hospitals within the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, taking the death toll here to 546, up from 540 on Thursday.

Five more deaths were reported at hospitals within the University Hospitals Morecambe Bay Trust, meaning a total of 424 people have died with coronavirus since last year.

While Blackpool Teaching Hopsitals recorded another three deaths meaning the number of people to die at facilities within the trust has increased from 606 on Thursday to 609 on Friday. 

Just two coronavirus related deaths were registered in Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals taking the death toll there to 301, up from 299 on Thursday.

A total of 2,642 people in Lancashire have now died with the virus since last March.
