A MAN has been taken to hospital after being found 'unresponsive' near the canal.
Lancashire Police were called at 11.15am by the ambulance service who found the man on the path by the Leeds Liverpool Canal, Blackburn.
The man was found on the path near Davies Road with 'serious head and back injuries' and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called around 11.15am today (Monday, January 11) by the ambulance service after a man was found unresponsive on a canal path close to Davies Road in Blackburn.
"The man had suffered serious head and back injuries and has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.
"An investigation into the circumstances around the man’s injuries is ongoing."
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We were called to reports of an incident, on the canal near Blakewater Road in Blackburn.
"We mobilised and an ambulance, a response vehicle and an air ambulance.
"One patient was taken to hospital via road."
