The mountain rescue team were called out again on Saturday, taking the total number of emergency callouts to 11 in just nine days.

The first call was on Saturday afternoon when the team were requested by the ambulance service to bring their specialised stretcher to assist with getting a person from their home in Burnley into a waiting ambulance.

The volunteers at Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue were then called just an hour later, at 1.35pm, to assist with an elderly man who had fallen down the stairs at a house on the moors just off the A56 near Accrington.

He had reportedly been there since Friday evening and unable to move.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Deep snow and narrow lanes meant the team's 4x4 vehicles were used for access to the property.

On Saturday a spokesperson for the RPMR Team said: "Today the madness of the New Year continues, our 11th call out in nine days.

"The team have been mobilised twice early this afternoon, and as always continues to be on call 24/7 to assist throughout the community.

"The first call was a request from ambulance service at 12.30pm for the use of one of our specialist stretchers (MIBS) to extract a casualty from a property near Scott Park in Burnley.

"The paramedic on scene (also a team member) had requested this additional support from the team due to the nature of the casualty and getting them to the ambulance as safely as possible.

"Shortly over an hour later, at 1.35pm a second request was made to assist with an elderly casualty who had fallen down the stairs at a property on the moors just off the A56 near Accrington.

"He had reportedly been there since the previous evening and unable to move.

"Deep snow and narrow lanes again meant the teams 4x4 vehicles were used for access to the property.

"Team members and the team doctor provided treatment to the casualty before packaging them in the vacuum mattress and then transporting them to the awaiting ambulance (surprisingly enough the same team member/paramedic as the previous job as well)."
