POLICE have issued an “urgent” appeal for witnesses following a serious road collision which left a woman hospitalised at the weekend.

A report was received of an accident on the A19 northbound between, Moor Farm and Seaton Burn roundabouts, near Cramlington, at about 8pm on Saturday.

Investigators understand a white Ford car was travelling north, when for reasons to be established, it came off the road and collided with a tree.

It is known another vehicle also stopped at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, a 35-year-old woman, was taken to hospital having sustained serious injuries and is described as being in a stable condition.

Sergeant Matt Sykes, from Northumbria Police’s motor patrols team, said: “This was a serious collision which has resulted in a woman being hospitalised.

“Our inquiries are ongoing, and I would urge any motorists who were in the area at the time of this incident to get in touch if they saw anything, particularly those who might be in possession of any dashcam footage.

“We are also aware there may have been another road traffic collision on this stretch of road before this one took place, and we would also ask anyone with information about this to get in touch.”

Members of the public who can help are asked to contact police using the force’s Tell us Something page, on its website, or by email to 471@northumbria.pnn.police.uk, quoting log 752 020120.
