A HOTEL chain, which has been voted the "UK's worst" for the eighth-year running, has attracted hundreds of reviews at its sites across the Lancashire

Britannia Hotels, who run venues in Blackpool, Bolton, Wigan and Manchester, were earlier this month voted the worst in the UK by the Which? consumer group.

The chain, which was the only one to receive one just out of five for cleanliness, was condemned after venues across the country were described as "filthy."

Meanwhile, Britannia hotels in the North West have attracted thousands of reviews from guests, with varying levels of opinion on whether they had a good night's stay.

We've looked at Trip Advisor to see what people are saying about the hotels.

The Savoy, Blackpool

The chain's Blackpool outlet has received over 1,100 reviews that rank it as 'terrible', amounting to nearly half of reviews awarding a one-star rating.

Trip Advisor user Travellers@61 wrote: "Paid £200 for a two night stay and what a total and absolute waste if our hard earned money it was.

"My cat stays in better accommodation than this. Was given a family room with a sea view , if you could see through the filthy windows.

"Room far too hot heating on all the time and the windows wouldn’t open. The room was clean though and the tea and coffee were welcoming. Had two very bad nights sleep mainly due to the bed being rock hard and only one pillow."

Norbreck Castle Hotel

This venue, also in Blackpool faired worse yet, scoring a two-star 'poor' rating overall with over 3,000 reviews ranked as 'terrible'.

matt211988 wrote: "I recently had the un-pleasurable experience of having to stay at the Norbreck hotel.

"I was booked on for 4 nights, upon arrival I proceeded to the check in desk, which resembled something from Fawlty towers and was checked in by a member of staff.

"I was informed that there would be no meals, not even breakfast... But not to worry, there was a microwave I could use in the reception area.

"I was given my room key and pointed to the lifts, which involved going through some weird arcade area and into one of the most terrifying lifts I have been in, even an old mine lift felt safer."

Grand Metropole Hotel

This Blackpool venue, also owned by the Britannia chain, meanwhile scored a slightly better 2.5 star average but still attracted nearly 2,000 negative reviews.

LiverpoolLorraine wrote on Trip Advisor: "Absolutely filthy hole, carpets stink, filthy rooms stink, blood on curtains, dirty marks on carpet heating full on like a bleeding oven.

"We only looked at two family rooms, wouldn't let pigs stay there.

"Utterly disgusting, won't even give this hole a rating, stay away."

Grand Hotel Blackpool

The only one of the company's Blackpool venues to have scored a 'very good' rating overall, the Grand Hotel Blackpool nevertheless earned over 600 one-star reviews.

SWB wrote: "The most disgusting, dirty, dusty hotel we have ever stayed in! Not a four star by any means.

"The room was appalling, shower leaked onto the floor, cracked and mouldy tiles, dirty sock left in the bathroom, thick dust on the curtains and furniture, mould around the window, carpet had hair balls and hair grips, clearly not been vacuumed.

"Cabinet had old coffee cup rings, clearly not be wiped.

"The chair was so stained it looked like it had been retrieved from a skip, smelt of stale cigarettes....the list goes on."

Britannia Hotel Bolton

The company's Bolton venue received over 140 one-star reviews with one customer describing it as the 'worst hotel ever'.

obee100 wrote: "We couldn't relax then when we got to our rooms the smell was horrendous ,the was blood on the torn carpet.

"The door frame was smashed like something out of a horror movie. And the room was completely dated back to the 1970s.

"It was completely unacceptable for a hotel. We left immediately- and were disgusted!"

Britannia Hotel Manchester

Portland Street's Manchester's branch of the hotel chain fared no better than any of the other Lancashire branches, with over 1,800 one-star reviews.

Hayley S wrote: "Terrible hotel, the room was dirty the wallpaper was grubby the curtains were hanging off the rail I know we are in the middle of covid but honestly the breakfast was not worth the effort they should not offer breakfast if they cannot offer something better."

Adelphi Hotel Liverpool

This venue received over 2,400 one-star reviews from outraged customers with one reviewer advising would-be guests to avoid the hotel 'like the plague.'

The anonymous reviewer wrote: "Card key didn’t work, had to be assisted - swapping cards between people no sanitiser.

"Rooms in awful state, reception rude and unhelpful, laughed at complaint.

"Vile stay."
