MORRISONS community champions have had a donation of £30,000 to spend on helping their local community - with more to come.

Community champions Blackburn, Great Harwood and Nelson stores will each receive £1,363 in store vouchers which they can spend on what they think will benefit their community.

The donation has come from Preston-based business Sapphire Utility Solutions Ltd. and will be shared equally between 22 North West stores.

The money could be used to buy groceries to help local food banks, purchasing items like kettles and toasters or even getting toys for children.

Managing Director of Sapphie Utility Solutions Ltd, Michael Patel said “We are extremely grateful for each and every contribution from our clients, partners and staff.

"These generous donations will help many vulnerable people in our community, and will ensure during these unprecedented times, that all families who have signed up to these food banks will not go hungry."

Sapphire Utility Solutions Ltd. will be making another £30,000 donation in January which will be used in the same way.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: "Sapphire Utility Solutions Ltd have very kindly donated £30k worth of Morrisons gift cards to be distributed to our Community Champions in our stores.

"Our Champions will then spend them on essential items that’ll help their communities, local food banks and families in need.

"Whether it’s with essential groceries or something to make life easier like a toaster or kettle, or even toys for children, these gift cards will go a long way in making a difference to local communities.

"Sapphire Utility Solutions will also be donating an additional £30k in January - thank you!"
