A CAR fire in Blackburn last night, with the blaze engulfing the passenger area of the car, is under invetsigation.

Firefighters in Blackburn were called to Robert Street about about 3.45am this morning (December 17) after a black Audi A3 caught fire.

Firefighters said that passenger area well alight when crews arrived and once it had been extinguish, crews had to then gain access to the bonnet to make sure fire had not spread further.

One crew was sent to the fire and firefighters were battling the blaze for about an hour.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Blackburn firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire on Robert Street in Blackburn.

"The vehicle was well alight on the roadway when they arrived and they extinguished the fire using; breathing apparatus, a hose reel and disc cutter.

"Firefighters were in attendance around one hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation."
