THIS wonderfully atmospheric photo was taken after dark on Blackburn Boulevard in 1967.

Rain had fallen earlier giving a shine to the road surface under the bus station’s distinctive street lights.

A one-way system was in place with buses approaching along Railway Road from Salford having to head towards the station side of the Boulevard.

On the right you can see the silhouette of the Palace Theatre complete with dome which was later demolished when the telephone exchange was built.

In the gloom you can just make out the statue of Queen Victoria behind the bus shelters.

Even at the late hour this picture was taken, the buses were still running with several double deckers in shot.
