TRIBUTES are being paid to a loving family man and a legend of the Blackburn Rovers supporters scene who is being laid to rest this week.

Ronnie Hill, from Great Harwood and formerly of Accrington, bid a final farewell to his beloved family on December 3 and will be remembered as a devoted husband to Trish and fiercely protective father to daughters Rebecca, Natalie, Victoria and Amanda.

In the wider community, the much loved and respected Mr Hill will be remembered as a zealous follower of Accrington Stanley and Blackburn Rovers, where the man fellow fans knew as Ron the Don was best known for organising transport to away games.

Best friend Steve Mack said: “I will miss the disagreements with the lads over Rovers, I will miss our pre and post-match rituals, I will miss our train trips to away matches, but most of all I will miss your friendship and support, always loved, always missed, always remembered.”

Mr Hill was always open to newcomers at Rovers games, making youngsters feel welcome.

Fellow supporter James Whittle said: “He bought my lad his first scarf and numerous badges.

“Was an absolute pleasure to know him, he was one of life’s good guys.

“If there were more around like Ronnie then the world would be a better place for it.”

As a self-employed plumber and builder Mr Hill’s work took him all over the UK and further afield to Germany where he was known as a true grafter.

Both at work and amongst fellow football fans he could often be found chatting with friends, with his New Year’s parties becoming legendary local fixtures.

However, his greatest passion of all remained his family and, along with his wife and daughters, Mr Hill leaves behind the grandchildren described as the light of his life: Floyd, Franklyn, Hattie, Layla, Florence, Austin and Ruby, his brother John and sister Carol along with many other relatives.

The family are accepting donations in his memory to Royal Blackburn Hospital respiratory ward.
