A burglar was given a suspended jail sentence after a court heard how he had cut down his drinking - to 30 cans of lager a day.
Sean Whiteside, 28, had been downing 48 cans daily plus up to two bottles of spirits at the time of the offence, Preston Crown Court heard.
Whiteside of King Street, Lostock Hall, Preston, who lives on incapacity benefit, was given a 32 week suspended sentence, and ordered to have alcohol treatment.
He was caught by DNA - blood was found in the neighbour's fridge after Whiteside stole eight cans of lager.
Judge Christopher Cornwall told him: "It almost defies belief how anyone can drink forty eight cans of lager a day and a bottle or two of spirits.
"You have reduced your intake to thirty a day, but it is still an astonishing amount for someone with a damaged liver."
