An advent walk through a town's park has been approved by the council.

From December 19, Bold Venture Park in Darwen will be turning into a winter wonderland thanks to the Friends of Bold Venture Park and local schools.

A number of advent pictures, such as the three kings and a nativity scene, will be hidden at different locations throughout the park, and visitors will be tasked with locating them before writing the numbers and letters found on the images down on a quiz sheet in order to crack a code.

Joanna Walsh from Darwen contacted the Friends of Bold Venture Park to see if it would be possible to organise the Christmas event and following consultation with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and with assistance from the Friends the advent walk through the park was approved.

Ms Walsh said: "The advent pictures are being designed and developed by schools in the area including Barnabas C of E Primary School, Butterflies Out of School Experience, St Joseph's RC Primary School, St Peter's C of E Primary School, Blackburn Central High School and Avondale Primary School, as well as residents at Old Gates Nursing and Residential Home,

"Decorations have been made to place around the park and donations, including a Christmas tree and paint have come from various companies, such as Crown Paints, HC-One and Whalley Construction.

"Wooden figures will also be scattered around for the children to interact with.

"There will also be a huge photo frame somewhere in the park, with hopes people will stand in it and take photographs.

"The photographs then can be shared to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

"Selection boxes have been donated to be given as prizes to the first 75 people to bring a completed quiz sheet to the Bold Venture Scout Hut on January 3."

A community Christmas tree has also been donated by Four Seasons Garden Centre, for residents of the Bold Venture area to put their own decorations on.
