A HOSPITAL theatre team have been given an award for their efforts during an emergency c-section.

The Blackburn Theatre team were nominated by their colleague Dr Charlotte Cox for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s Employee of the Month accolade for December.

The team, including the on-call anaesthetic team and the Blackburn clinic midwives, won for their combined efforts in the emergency procedure.

Dr Charlotte Cox said: “An emergency theatre was organised in fifteen minutes, with a team in place and ready. The anaesthetic team also arrived quickly offering support and to organise the transfer of the patient, while two midwives reassured the patient and partner throughout a very nervous emergency situation.

“All members of the team demonstrated fantastic teamwork and stepped up to ensure safe patient care while responding to an emergency. The baby was born safely and both mum and new-born were carefully transferred to Burnley.”

The award was presented by Chief Executive, Kevin McGee, who said: “This is an excellent example of multiple teams working together to provide safe, personal and effective care for our patients. Well done and thank you to all involved!”
