BARROW'S Labour Party Chairman criticised the Government over its delays in reaching an agreement on Brexit.

Chris Altree questioned whether prime minister Boris Johnson had delivered on his promise for an 'oven-ready' Brexit deal and suggested the Conservatives were losing public support over the delays.

Mail readers have also given their opinions on the issue.

Ivan Stanley said: “The Tory party have been in power now for 10 long years. Those 10 years have only shown us who they really are. Ten years of cruelty and hard-nosed austerity.”

Colin Town said: “I do not like how the negotiations have gone, but all I can say is thank goodness we have left. The European Union detests democracy and has no issue overriding its own rules when they become an inconvenience as the EU bail outs demonstrated. They are the lowest performing continental economy in the world, aside from Antarctica and their imports to the UK have decreased from 55% to 45% in 10 years. If they had stayed as the EEC in 1992 I would have been happy to stay. But they became the EU.”

Rick Barrows said: “People voted for a soundbite and got what they deserved. Of course, the Tories were going to betray us, but people fell for it.”

Raymond Flowers said: “I'm happy to leave with no deal. It will those unelected EU commissioners sweat it out.”

Malcolm South said: “Can you imagine the mess we would be in if Labour had been in power for 10 years? Without a doubt it would have been a total disaster. Look at history, see the damage that left wing ideologies do and that the right ends up having to fix.”

Stephen Minds said: “I voted to remain, but we are leaving as that's what people voted for. Time will tell how it turns out, whether we'll be richer or poorer will be interesting. Will the British lap up the jobs we rely on immigrants for? One thing is for sure and that's Boris is a populist leader and will say whatever he needs to whenever he needs to so if he says he's got a deal ready to go and an election to win you can bet he has no deal ready to go.”
