GRITTERS will be in action across Blackburn with Darwen roads tonight.
The borough council has announced that it is taking the action with further snow a possibility this evening.
The gritters are set to begin work at 6pm.
A Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council spokesperson said: "Today has certainly seen some erratic wintry weather!
"The snow was more contained to the higher routes such as Broadhead, Belmont etc with the Police closing Grane Road for a short time earlier. The forecast overnight is pretty much more of the same with on/off snow showers."
Tonight a mixture of rain, snow and sleet is expected with further snow possible on high ground.
Skies may clear by the end of the night.
