A COVID-19 test may not be what you asked for this Christmas, but testing centres will remain open all through the festive season.

Blackburn with Darwen council have reiterated the importance of getting a test as soon as possible after developing symptoms and to allow this, test sites will stay open December bank holidays but for fewer hours.

The walk-in sites at Blackburn College and Railway Road in Darwen will be open from 8am until 8pm on Christmas Eve and from 9am until 3pm on both Christmas Day and bank holiday Monday (December 28). Over new year, the test sites will be open from 8am until 8pm on New Years Eve and 9am until 3pm on New Years Day.

The Royal Blackburn Hospital site will be open from 8am to 5pm on Christmas Eve and from 9am until 3pm on both Christmas Day and bank holiday Monday (December 28). Over new year, the site will be open from 8am until 5pm on New Years Eve and 9am to 3pm on New Years Day

In a statement released on their website, a spokesperson for the council said: "Appointments are available at our testing sites across the borough, including walk up appointments for all those who are symptomatic at Railway Road in Darwen and at Blackburn College.

"Booking first is still advised but if you are having problems accessing appointments with the national online system you can get tested without registering first online."
