THE number of coronavirus deaths in East Lancashire have broken past the 400-mark since the start of the pandemic.

Health bosses have seen 408 deaths in the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, with 28 coming in the five days between November 16 and 20.

On Thursday, the trust had the most victims (11) since the figures were first recorded.

They are the fifth highest in the North West, with only Pennine Acute (957), Liverpool University Trust (876), Manchester University (632) and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Trust (462) tallying more.

Meanwhile the latest statistics from Blackburn with Darwen Council show that there have been 149 deaths in the borough from Covid-19 to date.

They also revealed that the total number of cases stands at 8,829 while there was 860 new cases between November 14 and 20.

The age-group with the most new cases is the 16-29 years category.

According to figures from Blackburn with Darwen Council the areas where there are the most cases in Blackburn in Shear Brow and Corporation at 899 - with 84 in the seven days to November 13, while Bastwell and Daisyfield had 848 (75 new cases) followed by Audley and Queen’s Park with 830 (77).

Billinge and Beardwood (740 - 65 new), Little Harwood and Whitebirk (616 - 51), Roe Lee (613 - 58), Wensley Fold (613 - 39), Blackburn Central (606 - 40 new), Blackburn South East (429 - 49), Ewood (385 - 43), Darwen West (366 - 38), Blackburn South and Lower Darwen (358 - 44), Darwen East (350 - 45) and Darwen South (340 - 54).

The lowest rates were in West Pennine (249 - 29), Mill Hill and Moorgate (289 - 30), and Livesey with Pleasington (298 - 39).
