BURNLEY’S Jordan North is hoping to be crowned King of the Castle when the current series of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here ends.

As the Radio One DJ continues to win new fans with his exploits, we thought we’d take a look at the other celebrities with connections to the area who have been on the show.

Out first contestant was actress and model Gemma Atkinson who went into the Australian bush in 2007. A passionate supporter of Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary she was right at home among the wildlife and finished fifth behind Christopher Biggins.

In 2011, Bury-born Antony Cotton from Coronation Street entered the fray, finishing fourth behind McFly’s Dougie Poynter.

The following year it was the turn of his fellow Coronation Street star, Helen Flanagan. The former QEGS pupil ended the show in seventh place as EastEnders actress Charlie Brooks took the title.

There was another Coronation Street regular in the 2017 series when Jennie McAlpine finished fourth in the series won by reality star Georgia Toffolo.

And in 2018, comedian Emily Atack, daughter of actress and comedian Kate Robbins and niece of Phoenix Nights’ star Ted Robbins almost took the crown, finishing runner-up behind football manager Harry Redknapp.

Of course we have left the best until last.

In 2014, former World Superbike champion Carl Fogarty added the title of King of the Jungle to his many other triumphs when the public crowned him their favourite.

“I just think it’s all a dream, someone’s playing a trick on me,” said the Blackburn bike ace when presenters Ant and Dec told him he had won.

He beat bookies’ favourite Jake Quickenden with TV presenter Melanie Sykes finishing third.

Now the show has moved to Wales to to the current pandemic and Jordan North is doing his best to keep up the area’s proud tradition. Will he bring the title back to his ‘happy place’ - Turf Moor?
