A LIBRARIAN at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School has received a top award from Schools Library Service.

The senior school library at the Blackburn grammar school has won the ‘Gold’ award from SLS, following two years of extensive evidence collating by Senior School Librarian, Valerie Dewhurst.

SLS work with schools to help them develop hubs for learning, exploration and self-development.

The school have been given the top award after the service recognised the opportunities on offer for pupils across the primary ages, senior ages and for students in sixth form.

Mrs Dewhurst, who has worked at the school for 15 years, said: “After 2 years of hard work in applying for this award, I am so pleased that we have achieved SLS ‘Gold’ status.

"It is a great honour and I feel very proud that our library has been given this recognition.

"We try our best in school to give pupils and students a range of opportunities to support their studies in all subjects and it is fantastic to see this recognised by SLS.

"The award is also endorsed by the School Library Association."
