BLACKBURN with Darwen Council staff have delivered 1.3million items of personal protective equipment (PPE) to care providers across the borough ahead of the winter.

Some 67 care homes and domiciliary care providers received masks, gloves, aprons, visors and hand sanitisers.

Earlier this year, the council bought a reserve of PPE through the Lancashire Resilience Forum to supplement stock from the government.

This week staff took a break from their normal day-to-day duties to help undertake the PPE deliveries.

Staff from the finance team worked with the procurement team to allocate stock, whilst the transport team ensured the deliveries made it safely to their destinations.

Cllr Mustafa Desai said: “These deliveries will help care providers across the borough prepare for the winter period and ensure their staff and the people they care for have enough PPE during these challenging times.”

The council has further supplies of PPE in stock and care providers can get in touch to order items when needed.
