EAST Lancashire's main bus operator Transdev is asking its customers, business and political leaders for their views on the future of public transport after the coronavirus pandemic.

It has published its 28-page roadmap for the future 'Build Buses Back Better' and is asking for comments on the blueprint for growth in 2021 and beyond.

Already the firm - which runs the Blackburn and Burnley bus companies - is switching to electric vehicles in Harrogate and estimates that if one per cent of car journeys switch to bus travel after the pandemic bus journeys would rise by 19 per cent.

Transdev chief executive Alex Hornby said: “2020 has been the year of COVID-19, which has produced unprecedented challenges. I’m proud to say we continue to battle through, thanks to the support of our amazing customers and colleagues. But as we approach 2021 with a real prospect of an end to the current restrictions, it’s time to turn our eyes to the future and the opportunities ahead."
