The Lake District has been ranked as the UK's number one national park.

With travel restrictions due to the coronavirus meaning we've all had to look a little bit closer to home when it comes to booking a trip away in 2020, research carried out by a top UK hotel found that the North West's picturesque lake and fell region is a favourite among staycationing Brits.

In the UK, we’re blessed with some stunning areas of natural beauty - from the moorlands of Dartmoor and North Yorkshire to the spectacular summits of the Peak District, there’s a great mix of national parks to explore in the UK, each with their own unique charms.

But out of the nation's 15 national parks, it was the Lake District that came out on top.

The research, carried out by a team at Craig Manor Hotel in Bowness, ranked the parks on factors including walking routes, number of attractions, reviews, Instagrammability, rain and much more.

Findings showed that not only was the Lake District the most visited of the national parks, but the area, which was recently made a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also came top for attractions, walking routes and Instagrammability, while also scoring highly for outdoor activities and of course, its abundance of beautiful lakes which give it its name.

The Lakes are a special destination for many reasons, and while having to put up with the odd rain shower (even in summer), visitors can explore the fells and lakes on one of the famous ‘Wainwright’ walks, or take a look at one of the many indoor visitor attractions such as the World of Beatrix Potter.
