The bomb squad had to be called and a cordon erected when an unexploded shell was found on an industrial estate.
Police were called at around 3.15pm on Monday after receiving reports that the device had been discovered on the White Lund Industrial Estate in Morecambe.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called at around 3.15pm on Monday to reports an unexploded shell had been found at the White Lund Industrial Estate in Morecambe.
"The shell was uncovered by contractors doing work in the area."
The Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit were called and a cordon was put in place which remained in situ on Tuesday morning.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
The spokesperson added: "EOD are en-route to the area and a cordon is now in place.
"We are asking motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.
"We will update when the cordon has been lifted."
