The coronavirus infection rates have fallen across every borough in East Lancashire, except for one.

In Friday's update of the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19, Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Pendle, the Ribble Valley and Rossendale recorded notable decreases in their infection rates.

Burnley was the only borough across the whole region to record an increase.

Despite the rate in Blackburn with Darwen falling from 731.5 to 686.1, with 1,027 new cases, the borough now has the second highest rate of infection in the country.

Oldham is in third place, where the rate has dropped from 792.5 to 677.7, with 1,607 new cases.

All but one of the remaining East Lancashire boroughs have seen their infection rates fall in the seven days to November 9 - only Burnley has recorded an increase, with infection rates rising from 366.6 per 100,000 people to 436.3.

The rates of infection for the rest of East Lancashire are:

Pendle 420.1 (387), 463.6 (427)

Hyndburn 406.0 (329), 472.6 (383)

Rossendale 391.7 (280), 481.2 (344)

Ribble Valley 367.9 (224), 392.5 (239)

The figures, for the seven days to November 9, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for November 10 to November 13 has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

A majority of areas in England (221 out of 315) have seen a rise in case rates.

Hull has the highest rate in England, with 1,931 new cases recorded in the seven days to November 9 – the equivalent of 743.3 cases per 100,000 people.

This is up from 545.1 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to November 2.

The list is based on Public Health England data published on November 13 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

From left to right, the top 20 list reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to November 9; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to November 9; rate of new cases in the seven days to November 2; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to November 2.
