A DRONE was used to assist rescuers in saving a man who was over a kilometre out at sea.

On Sunday evening, Morecambe Police and the RNLI responded to reports for help after a man was spotted over a kilometre away in the water.

A drone was used to located him and he was brought back to safety on an RNLI hovercraft.

A spokesman said: “Last night, with @MorcambePolice and @MorecambeRNLI , the drone team have assisted with the rescue of a male 1km out at sea, who was brought back to safety with Police on the RNLI Hovercraft!”
