A LIGHT-DISPLAY tribute to war heroes is being projected on Blackburn Town Hall.

On until November 11, the Remembrance themed projection includes images of Blackburn soldiers, wartime newspaper archives, local war poetry, and a poppies animation, lighting up the town hall.

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England (ACE), Blackburn town centre BID, is collaborating in partnership with Blackburn Festival of Light, Blackburn with Darwen Council, Blackburn Central Library, Blackburn Museum and The Mall to bring the attraction to the town.

The video has also been co-ordinated with Blackburn and Darwen Royal British Legion branches, the Cathedral’s Dean and armed forces personnel from the community, past and present, to share the poignant message that ‘We Will Remember Them’.

Catherine Price, Blackburn Town Centre BID Manager, said: “We have commissioned animated creative ‘shows’ to be projected on to Blackburn Town Hall and we’re sure that this digital approach will bring Blackburn to life in a safe and engaging way.”

The architectural projection lighting installation will be on until early January with projections for Christmas, the Festival of Light and New Years Eve.

With the expertise of Double Take Projections, and funding from Blackburn BID and ACE, Blackburn Town Hall will be lit and animated. Each ‘show’ will be just a few minutes long, run continuously from dusk, and will run for at least a week.

In addition, there will be social distancing markers placed on Town Hall Square to help people stay safe.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Mohammed Khan CBE said: “It’s even more important that this year we remember our armed forces both past and present.

"Whilst we can’t do this in the traditional ways, we can do this in a number of creative ways from watching the light show, to virtual services, to taking part in the doorstep silence.

"Collectively, but from the safety of our homes, I hope that this year residents will join me on their doorsteps in remembering and thanking our armed forces for their sacrifices.”

Residents are also encouraged to take part in the national two minutes silence from their doorstep on Sunday, November 8 at 11am.
