BLACKBURN-based nuclear giant Assystem has unveiled a new UK managing director.

Simon Barber will be taking the helm, succeeding previous managing director Peter Higton, who had held the role for 13 years.

Mr Barber first joined the Haslingden Road-based company as UK business development director in September, having previously led engineering firm Arup’s nuclear division for nine years, and will take charge of UK operations in their entirety.

He said: “It is an exciting time for the energy sector and nuclear has a key role to play in the energy transition.

“Assystem has 3,000 nuclear experts, with knowledge of multiple technologies ready to support the development of the UK’s new nuclear projects.

“We are also focused on promoting the excellent careers on offer in nuclear to the next generation, and take the lead on supporting the industry to reach 40% of women in nuclear by 2030, through our Incredible Women programme.”

The company’s reach extends across eight offices in the UK.
