After TV programmes linking Britain’s stately homes to the slave trade, it was obvious that the woke fraternity’s next target would be Britain’s castles.
Having used ship owners from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries to heap guilt on our shoulders, it is now the turn of William of Orange.
Well let me tell them that no matter how far back in history they go, or how many statues are toppled, plaques removed and streets and buildings renamed, I for one will never feel any guilt for what happened in centuries past.
Not only were times, conditions and attitudes vastly different, but more important, I was not there. Is it not written that the sins of the father should not be visited upon the son?
No doubt with all their virtue signalling the woke fraternity will feel all warm and fuzzy as they look down on us from their ivory towers, but I would have more respect for them if they devoted their energies to stamping out the modern day slavery which is endemic in Africa and the Middle East.
