Tier 3 lockdown restrictions came into force in Lancashire over two weeks ago.

Many new rules are in place regarding people mixing with others they don't live with in indoor and outdoor settings, including pubs and restaurants.

Under tier 3 rules shops including supermarkets are allowed to stay open.

However, under the restrictions shoppers should not meet with people they do not live with or who is outside their support 'bubble'.

Families and couples who live together will still be able to shop together, however each shop may have its own rules when it comes to how many people are allowed in at once.

This is what each supermarket is asking customer to do.

Face masks are required to be worn in all shops.

ASDA

ASDA has recently created 1,000 'safety marshal' roles to help remind shoppers to wear face masks.

These marshals will be at the entrance and across the store to encourage shoppers to stick to coronavirus rules.

The shop is also encouraging people to shop alone where possible.

ALDI

Aldi is encouraging staff to ask customers to comply with Government guidelines and wear masks in stores, but they are not being asked to enforce them.

Aldi is also encouraging people to shop alone where possible and has a traffic light system in place at the door to limit the number of people in stores.

LIDL

Lidl says it is following Government guidelines on masks and exemptions, so won't challenge customers who are not wearing a mask due to these exemptions.

Lidl does monitor the number of people in its stores and limits them if needed.

Morrison's

Morrison's is encouraging all customers to wear a face mask and is handing out free masks at the entrance in some cases.

The store has also adopted a 'one person per trolley' policy and a queuing system to limit numbers when necessary.

Sainsburys

A statement on Sainsbury's website says about face masks: "Greeters will be on hand outside all supermarkets and busy convenience stores to remind customers to wear face coverings when they enter the store.

"If you do not have a face covering when you arrive at a store, our colleagues will help you find one.

"We have provided all Sainsbury’s colleagues with face coverings and all colleagues now wear face coverings when they are working on the shop floor and not behind a safety screen."

On limiting customer cumbers, the store says: "We are asking everyone to only send one adult per household to our shops where possible.

"This helps us keep people a safe distance apart and also helps to reduce queues to get into stores. Our store teams will be asking groups with more than one adult to choose one adult to shop and will ask other adults to wait.

"Children are welcome if they are not able to stay at home."

TESCO

Tesco has installed a traffic light system in some stores to limit numbers.

A statement on their website also says: "If there’s a queue outside and it’s raining, we’ll be handing out sanitised umbrellas in our larger stores."

The store is still also encouraging people to shop alone to limit numbers.

For face masks the store says: "When you visit our stores, please follow the legal guidance on wearing a face covering.

"If you forget to bring one, we have packs available to buy at the front of our stores, which you can open immediately and pay for with your shopping later.

"As a reminder, the police can issue fines for not wearing a face covering, unless you’re exempt."

M&S

Numbers are monitored and limited in M&S stores.

A statement on safety measures in place on their website says: "Across our stores, extra measures are still in place – from hand sanitiser on the door, to increased cleaning, and perspex screens."

On face coverings, the rules are: "All colleagues and customers must wear face coverings whilst in our shops unless exempt."
