A MAN who felt he was being bullied by a fellow hostel resident armed himself with a metal tent peg to frighten off the other man.

Blackburn magistrates heard on another occasion Connor Reece Wilkinson caused £250 worth of damage to windows at the Salvation Army Hostel.

The court was told Wilkinson had been thrown out of the Heaton Street hostel but had since been allowed back after convincing staff he was worth another chance.

Wilkinson, 22, of Bramwell House, Heaton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour, criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £100 compensation for the window, £85 costs and £22 victim surcharge.

Damian Pickup, defending, said at the time of the incidents his client accepted he was drinking too much and taking too much spice.

"He accepts that impacted on his behaviour," said Mr Pickup.

He said as a result of problems with another resident at the hostel Wilkinson had armed himself with the tent peg.

"He went out with this item hoping the other man would back off and go away," said Mr Pickup.

"This kind of behaviour was out of character for him.

"He was evicted but he has gone back since and asked for a second chance which they have given him."
