A MOTORCYCLIST suffered serious head injuries after coming off his bike when he crashed into a kerb and collided into the back of a flatbed truck yesterday afternoon, Friday.

The 74-year-old rider was on a Triumph motorbike travelling in Mere Brow along the A565 Southport New Road from Southport in the direction of Preston.

At around 2.55pm, he crashed into a kerb close to the junction with Moss Hey Lane, while attempting to overtake two vehicles.

Unfortunately, he came off the motorbike and then collided with the back of a flatbed truck.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with serious head injuries, where he remains in a serious condition.

The officer leading the investigation into the collision, Sgt Lee Harris, said: “Sadly, the motorcyclist is still very poorly in hospital and my thoughts remain with him and his family at this difficult time.

“We need anyone who was travelling along the road and saw what happened during this incident to get in contact, as it’s important that we understand how and why it occurred.
