Blackburn Rovers and Burnley have launched projects to help feed children over the half-term.

The clubs today announced they would be using their resources to assist local communities on the back of an awareness campaign from England and Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford.

Cafes, pubs and restaurants across the country have stepped up to offer free school meals for local children during half term, after MPs rejected a campaign started by footballer Marcus Rashford. A vote on the measures was backed by Labour and made its way to Parliament this week, but it was defeated by 322 votes to 261.

Now hundreds of organisations have shown they “stand with Rashford, not the 322”, by supporting families during the school holidays.

Blackburn Rovers said they were partnering up Aldi and will be aiming to feed 100 families during the half term break.

The club posted earlier today, “We’d like to extend our thanks to Yvonne and Rosie who helped us collect the food.”

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust staff will be out delivering meals to feed families throughout the as part of the Get Stuck In project.  As well as delivering food the club said would be sending out fun activity packs as well as utilising our Facebook and Twitter pages (@BRFCTrust) to provide daily video content.

Lancashire Telegraph:
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust staff were out delivering 50 bags of food packages to children of St Aidans Primary School already this week.

The Foodbank at Burnley Community Kitchen, operated by the Clarets' official charity, Burnley FC in the Community will continue to offer support for families and individuals across Burnley facing food poverty.

During the lockdown the Foodbank moved to delivery only and has fed over 7,400 people, of which 3,000 were children, since March.

The foodbank relies completely on donations from the public and partners, working with the hardest to reach families in the borough to ensure that no children have to go hungry. In partnership with Warburtons, Kelloggs and Clayton Park Bakery, the foodbank’s Early Kick-off Breakfast Clubs feed 2,000 local children every week.

As half-term approaches the foodbank will continue to work with community hub BurnleyTogether and the schools involved to ensure children and their families receive food parcels over the holidays.
