FANS queued round the block to get their hands on free tickets to see legendary Liverpool band Echo and the Bunnymen in concert in Blackburn.

Over 2,000 tickets for the gig at King George’s Hall were available as part of the Celebrate Blackburn Festival in 2008 - the replacement for the council-run summer festival Arts in the Park.

The first 1,000 were available to be collected in advance but tickets were strictly limited to two per person. As a result, fans began to stand in line several hours before the box office opened

The remaining 1,200 were available from the box office on the day of the concert sparking yet more queues circling the venue with fans eager to get free tickets to see the band fronted by Ian McCulloch.

Some fans travelled from Europe for the show

The Celebrate Blackburn event ran throughout July and also included performances at King George’s Hall by the Zoe Taylor School of Dance, a search for a star night, cookery demonstrations by top chefs, and a pro darts exhibition.
