THE devastated family of a father-of-seven are urging people to get behind them in a bid to prolong his life.

Sophia Hogg said her family have been left heartbroken after her dad Jason, from Blackburn, was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The 47-year-old was told about his fate when back pain turned out to be as a result of cancer which had spread through his body from his left lung and into his bones.

The much-loved dad has been given ‘months if not weeks’ to live, prompting his family to call on the people of East Lancashire to support them in their mission to keep him alive.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Mr Hogg’s eldest daughter Sophia said the family will now do all they can to get him the help he needs.

The 26-year-old said: “His doctors and nurses are giving him drugs for the pain, but it’s just for palliative care, there is nothing they can do for him.

“But we’re not going to let him go without a fight. We’ve done our research and know there is a chance for us to do something about this, and that’s all we’re looking for – a small chance.”

The family now hope to raise enough money to get Mr Hogg on a Rick Simpson oil cannabis treatment plan, in attempt to prolong his life they say will cost £4,400.

The oil was developed by Mr Simpson, a Canadian medical marijuana activist.

Sophia added: “We know there is no treatment on the NHS that will help, and this can’t be funded by them. We’ve had to do our own research and we’ve read all about the benefits of his product. We really feel it could give dad a chance.

“It is expensive and we need help to try and get him the treatment.”

Mr Hogg is a dad to seven children, ranging from Sophia the eldest, to little Georgia who is just four years old. He also has six grandchildren.

Sophia added: “We will be broken if the worst happens. He is so loved and him dying would leave seven children without a father. Four of us have already lost our mum and he has brought us up himself.

“He loves the outdoors being in nature and camping - all things we want to be able to do with him as a family.

“Some people have already supported us and we just hope others might find it in them to do the same, it would mean the world to us.”
