SHOCKING dashcam footage has been released of a reckless motorcyclist riding at speed on a motorbike with a child in front of him – and both of them are not wearing helmets.

The video was captured by motorist Skott Martyn on Highfield Road in Farnworth at around 4.10pm on Saturday.

As the rider approaches Skott's car from the opposite direction the driver vents his anger and swears after seeing the rider wearing no helmet.

It is only after the bike passes that Skott realises that the bike was also carrying a young child, who was also not wearing a helmet.

Off camera, Skott expresses his astonishment of what he has just witnessed, brandishing the rider an "idiot".

A still image also appears to show that the youngster seems to be terrified as the motorbike speeds past.

The video has been shared on social media with many residents expressing their anger at the rider’s carelessness in endangering the child's life.

Skott Martyn, who witnessed the incident in his car, said: “I saw that the bike was doing in excess of 60mph on the main road and I thought 'here we go, another rider going fast'.

“But then I saw there was toddler at the front of the bike and I could see from their face that they were absolutely terrified.

“I could not tell if it was a boy or girl but they were screaming.

"You could see the fear on their face.

“It was absolutely shocking and beggars belief that someone would do that.

“It was so reckless and dangerous.

“How dare they put a child’s life at risk by doing that.

“People are outraged by it.”

Farnworth councillor Paul Sanders has echoed Mr Martyn's opinion on the incident.

Cllr Sanders said: "The footage is absolutely shocking.

"This behaviour raises questions both of the law and of morality.

"I'd urge whoever it is seen operating the bike in the video to stop this behaviour.

"Please think of the extreme dangers they are exposing their young loved one to, as well as themselves and other residents and road users."

Using off-road vehicles in public parks or on publicly-owned land such as residential roads without permission from the local authority is illegal.

Skott, from Farnworth, said it is not the first time he has seen riders speeding past on residential roads without wearing helmets.

He has seen it happen on many occasions in the area before, especially this year.

“It’s been going on for the last six months and it has really picked up over the last month or two”, Skott said.

“It’s been quite horrific.

“They have a total disregard for everyone in the community and they are very brazen about it.

“I think these people need to be stopped.”
